Summer may be in its final month, but there’s still plenty of time to get some beach days in before the end of the season. Luckily for you, New England is home to gorgeous sandy beaches — some of which are a stone’s throw away from Boston. Here’s a few of our favorites.
One of the closest to Boston is Nahant Beach, which is just a 20-30 minutes drive. Massachusetts license plates only pay $10 for parking, or alternatively you can take a bus or the Newburyport/Rockport line from North Station.
Devereux Beach in Marblehead is only slightly further afield — 30-35 minutes drive — and it’s a local favorite for a reason. Small waves, lifeguards on duty, a playground and a beautiful rocky coast make Devereux a great day out for the family.
Further but still within 40 minutes from the city is Manchester-by-the-Sea, one of the most famous New England beach towns. With a sweet and idyllic downtown area nearby, and a beautiful stretch of unspoiled beach, Manchester-by-the-Sea is the best bet for those who want the classic Massachusetts coast within an easy train commute.
