Here in New England, we’re lucky enough to have four seasons. While a wintry Boston is wonderful, the weather is finally sunny and warm, and that means you’ll want to spend as much time outdoors as possible. Luckily for you, there are plenty of hills, mountains, and hiking trails around New England and near the city that will get you out in nature and exercising in the sun.
Walden Pond is a 335-acre state park in Concord, and it’s filled with trails, clear ponds and rivers to swim in, and plenty of areas to have a picnic. The park has been a popular hiking spot for almost two hundred years, especially as it’s the location of Henry David Thoreau’s cabin. Pack a lunch, gather your friends and family, and make sure you bring sunscreen!
Wachusett Mountain is a skiing mountain in Princeton by winter, but by summer it is transformed into a hiking paradise. An hour from the city, this mountain has incredibly scenic views, and is the perfect spot for a day of exercise. The 2.6-mile Harrington Trail is highly recommended, but there are trails for all levels and ages.
Hopkinton State Park in Hopkinton is not only known for being the starting point of the Boston Marathon, but it’s also an ideal state park for a day out in the sun. Located a short drive to the city, this park not only has hiking trails for all levels, but it also has the beautiful Hopkinton Reservoir to cool off with a swim, and is a terrific spot for water activities like kayaking.
